We Are Continuing To Ensure Your Data Is Kept Secure

19 Jan 2015 in

If you are using Internet Explorer 6 you will no longer be able to access the Infinity Portal or APIs from 16th February, due to planned changes to secure an identified security weakness. Internet Explorer 6 only supports outdated SSL ciphers, which is no longer supported by Microsoft, and contains a known critical security problem in its SSL implementation. This update will not affect the tracking of any customers, but purely affects users who are using this outdated browser to access their data in the Portal.

To keep Infinity Tracking as secure as possible for our users, we will be removing RC4 and SSLv3 support in our SSL configuration on our Portal (portal.infinity-tracking.com) and on our APIs (api.infinitycloud.com).

RC4 has a number of cryptographic weaknesses that may be exploited, impacting the security of your data. More details about these vulnerabilities are listed in the current IETF draft. https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-ietf-tls-prohibiting-rc4/

On October 15, Google researchers published details on a security vulnerability (CVE-2014-3566 here http://googleonlinesecurity.blogspot.co.uk/2014/10/this-poodle-bites-exploiting-ssl-30.html) that affects the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) 3.0 encryption protocol, also known as “POODLE,” which may allow a man-in-the-middle attack to extract data from secure HTTP connections.

We strongly recommend that Windows XP users upgrade to a newer version of Windows. If this is not possible, you will need to use an alternative browser like Chrome or Firefox. It is reported that less than 0.1% of users in the UK & Canada & 0% in the US are currently using I.E.6 (https://www.modern.ie/en-us/ie6countdown) so we don't believe that this change will be an issue for any of our users.
