What GDPR Means for Infinity and Our Clients

Update: Click here to see our latest statement on what you need to know about call tracking and GDPR, as well as improvements Infinity have made to ensure your compliance.

On May 25, 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into effect in the European Union (EU). It's a date that should be highlighted in the calendars of all businesses serving an audience in this region.

What is GDPR?

The GDPR greatly expands the privacy rights of citizens in the EU, placing a substantial emphasis on responsibly handling the information, data, or marketing permissions of individuals in that region. It's important to remember that GDPR applies to anyone collecting or processing personal data of any EU citizen, regardless of where you are in the world. Think you can afford to ignore it? Failure to comply with these rules are serious, and can include fines of up to 4% of a company’s gross annual turnover.

The new changes will require many marketers, IT teams, and data professionals to adapt processes and practices that may have been in place for years. Therefore, it is highly recommended that compliance preparations are begun well in advance, and all relevant departments are included.

What is Infinity doing?

Responsible data security and privacy has always been at the forefront of our development, as we handle sensitive information from millions of our clients' customers every single day. Therefore, we are pleased to see GDPR raise the bar of data protection standards right the way across the EU.

We are diligently studying the specifications of the law and are currently consulting with multiple experts to ensure Infinity complies 100% with the regulations laid out by GDPR in time for May next year. This consultation process will comprehensively cover our technology, contracts, and documentation.

How does this affect Infinity's clients?

We understand that abiding by these rules is a priority of our clients, and it requires a partnership between Infinity and our clients in their use of our services. Infinity is in the process of developing a framework to make this partnership as practical and compliant as possible, but we still recommend familiarising yourself with the new regulations and making your own preparations.

Further guidance will be provided to all clients and interested parties nearer the time to ensure they enjoy all the benefits of Infinity while complying with the GDPR rules.
